Joe Patch's parents visit Kelly and ask for her forgiveness. Matt tries to save a convicted rapist and murderer from the death penalty. Kelly is initially supportive, but changes her mind after hearing a description of the man's crimes. A meeting with the client's brother prompts Kelly to realize the anguish experienced by the families of criminals; she forgives Mr. and Mrs. Patch. Although Steve stays home and organizes a haunted house for neighborhood kids, he eventually shows up at the club to support Janet..

Tuesday, January 6, 2009 Lucy and Johnny are preparing to go to Chicago for his treatment when Craig shows up at their room. Dusty bursts in and Lucy tells him they have no choice but to involve Craig, and for Johnny to be treated in Oakdale. Later, Dusty supports Johnny at the hospital. Craig takes Lucy off privately and confesses hes not the monster shes made him out to be. Katie, meanwhile, offers up her bone marrow. Dusty orders Katie to get Craig out of their lives, having brought him in. Later, Craig overhears Lucy telling Dusty that she has fake passports for them and Johnny. Craig calls Margo and orders her to arrest Lucy for kidnapping. Lily takes Jade shopping and she asks questions about Brian that Lily doesnt understand. Later, Lucinda speaks down to Jade and Jade lets fly that Lucinda has a gay husband. Brian speaks up and confesses that he made more than one pass at Luke. Lucinda kicks Brian out.

Valaida Snow (June 2,1904, Chattanooga, Tennessee - May 30,1956, New York City) was an African American jazz musician and entertainer. Raised on the road in a show-business family with her sister Lavaida Snow, she learned to play cello, bass, banjo, violin, mandolin, harp, accordion, clarinet, trumpet, and saxophone at professional levels by the time she was 15. She also sang and danced. After focusing on the trumpet, she quickly became so famous at the instrument that she was named "Little Louis" after Louis Armstrong, who used to call her the world's second best jazz trumpet player besides himself. She played concerts throughout the USA, Europe and China. Her most successful period was in the 1930s when she became the toast of London and Paris. Around this time she recorded her hit song, "High Hat, Trumpet, and Rhythm." She performed in the Ethel Waters show, "Rhapsody In Black", in New York. In the mid-30s she made films with her husband, Ananais Berry, of the Berry Brothers dancing troupe. After playing New York's Apollo, she revisited Europe and the Far East for more shows and films. Later she became addicted to morphine. While touring through Denmark in 1941, she was arrested and sent to a Concentration camp by the Nazis, where she was held from March until May 1942 before being released on a prisoner exchange. According to jazz historian Scott Yanow, "she never emotionally recovered from the experience". In the 1950s, she was unable to regain her former success. This is a news video on the subject of eleven year old Erin Maxwell who lived with her father, stepmother, and stepbrother in Palermo Town, Oswego County, New York State, USA. Erin was found critically injured in her bedroom on August 29, 2008. She was taken to a hospital where emergency workers worked through the night but were unable to save her. Erin was pronounced dead the next morning. According to the death certificate prepared by the Medical Examiner, Erin Maxwell died from asphyxia with sexual trauma as a contributing factor. In a section of the certificate which describes how the trauma occurred, it states "Assaulted by another". So to state this as simply as possible, Erin was raped and murdered. The alleged killer was her stepbrother Alan Jones who was the only person at home with her when the incident occurred. He has been arrested on a charge of second degree murder. Thus far, New York state officials have refused to answer any questions as to why Alan was not also charged with sexual assault. The Oswego County Department of Social Services (DSS) had investigated the Maxwell family three times in the past in response to complaints. The DSS was also contacted many other times by concerned individuals but refused to investigate. One person who saw the inside of the Maxwell house and was concerned for Erin's safety called the DSS and was told by a worker, "It's none of our business. We can't tell people how to live". Each of the three times that the DSS did investigate the Maxwell family, the Department determined that Erin was being adequately cared for and living in conditions that were acceptable to the DSS worker. The conditions inside the house included 125 cats and dozens of other animals including dogs, chickens, geese, a snake, and an iguana. The house also contained animal feces up to eighteen inches deep, piles of rotting garbage up to five feet deep, and twelve dead kittens in the kitchen freezer. Also, Erin was locked in her room every night and sometimes for days at a time. She was rarely fed and had to steal food from other children at her school. The DSS worker who investigated called the way the family was living a "lifestyle choice" and stated that there was no justification to remove Erin from that environment.
